Menacing Pyongyang claimed it tested the missiles yesterday as part of a rapidly increasing course to developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of sparking another world war.
Photographs of ruthless despot Kim Jong-un on the test site were splashed across the Rodong Simum – North Korea’s ruling party newspaper – as a rocket lay emitted fire while laying horizontally across the ground.
A two-page report detailed the tests which were carried out on the engine's structure and thrust.
Pyongyang’s news agency KCNA also reported the dictator’s test, saying: “He noted with great pleasure that the successful test... helped boost the power of ballistic rockets capable of mercilessly striking hostile forces.
The brazen move comes despite increasing UN sanctions against the reclusive nation as South Korea’s officials warn it could conduct a new nuclear test at any time.
Seoul president Park Geun-hye ordered the South Korean military gear up for a response to Pyongyang’s “reckless provocation” after the South claimed Pyongyang is ready to conduct a fifth nuclear test “now, immediately”.
The hermit state has recently threatened pre-emptive nuclear strikes against Washington and Seoul, as well as claiming it has made enhancements to its weapons technology.
Pyongyang said last week it had conducted successfully simulated the atmospheric re-entry of a ballistic missile, claiming it would soon test the deadly missiles which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
